ZURICH, SWITZERLAND - April 9, 2026 - On’s Materials Policy is a comprehensive framework designed to ensure that every material used in On products meets the company’s high thresholds for environmental integrity and animal welfare.
An important part of the new policy is a mandatory requirement for the ethical treatment of animals, guided by the internationally recognized "Five Freedoms." The policy mandates that all animal-derived materials, including leather, wool, and down, must be exclusively sourced through industry-leading certification schemes that verify ethical treatment and robust traceability from the farm region to the final product.
“Our commitment is clear: we use only materials from sources that uphold our high standards – aligned with the highest in the industry – for both animal welfare and environmental best practice,” said Begum Kurkcu, Senior Director of Sustainability at On. “This applies across our entire natural materials collection – from our by-product leather to our wool and down. By publishing this policy, we are showing that performance and integrity are inseparable.”
The policy explicitly outlines On’s standards and requires suppliers to provide transparency, tracing materials back to their origin on farm region level. On will verify compliance through both internal and third-party audits to ensure all partners adhere to these stringent requirements.
While formalizing its high standards for natural materials, On remains dedicated to pioneering the future of performance materials.
