Canadian track talent Kieran Lumb runs on clouds
After ending his collegiate career, Canada’s Kieran Lumb joins Swiss sportswear brand On and is ready to compete at the international level.
Zurich, Switzerland, April 20, 2023 - After building an impressive collegiate resume, Seattle-based athlete Kieran Lumb has signed with On and is gearing up for a fast outdoor track season.
Lumb was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, where he spent his winters Nordic Skiing and covered many kilometers running around Pacific Spirit Park.
“I was fortunate to grow up one block away from the park with 60km+ of soft surface trails that you can weave into a seemingly infinite number of loops”.
Upon completing high school, Lumb enrolled at the University of British Columbia, where he would eventually become a three-time team captain and graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering. He then moved to Seattle and continued his career at the University of Washington as a graduate student-athlete pursuing a Master of Science in Information Systems.
In the 2021-2022 season, he set the Washington School record in the 10,000 meters and finished the season as an All-American in track and field. To cap off his career as a husky, Lumb placed eighth in the 3000m and was part of a DMR team that finished fourth at the NCAA indoor championships.
“For me, the races that I learn the most from are the races I’m least happy with. For each race, good or bad, I try to take a lesson or two away for the next performance. Through these races, I’ve learned that eventually, a lot of what differentiates good and bad performances is how the athlete navigates the emotions, pressure, and the mental aspect of racing“, Lumb says about his growth process.
Outside of running, Lumb counts skiing and visiting new places as his favorite activities. He also loves to cook and believes that French toast is the best reward after a tough training session.
When asked about joining On, Lumb said, “What impressed me most about On was their excitement and commitment to investing themselves in the sport and their athletes. I have great confidence in their product development teams and the company’s vision for the future of our sport.“
Lumb has raced competitively across various distances and will continue to compete at a high level, hoping to represent Canada at the World Championships in Budapest this summer.
Some of his top achievements include:
- #2 Canadian All-time Indoor Mile (3:52.62)
- U23 Canadian Record Holder 3000m (7:45.50)
- NCAA West Region XC Champion 2021
