Double Triumph for On Athletes: Lobalu and Hoare Claim Victories at Diamond League London
A week out from the Olympics, Dominic Lobalu celebrates his second title, while Oliver Hoare claims his maiden Diamond League title in London.
ZURICH, Switzerland, July 22, 2024— At the final stop of the Diamond League ahead of the Olympic Games, On athletes proved to be in shape, with Oliver Hoare and Dominic Lobalu winning the Mile and 3000m men’s races, respectively.
Maiden Diamond League Title for Hoare
In the eventful men’s mile, OAC Global member Oliver Hoare (AUS) took home the win, running a season-best time of 3:49.03. Shaken up by a fall early on in the race that took out George Mills (GBR) and Neil Gourley (GBR), the runners settled into a steady pace as they made their way around the track. Hoare sat in the front, looking comfortable as the bell rang for the final lap. With 300 meters to go, Hoare made his move, pulling ahead and leading the pack into the final straight. Despite his final kick, a photo finish crowned Hoare the champion, with less than a millisecond between him and second-place finisher Narve Gilje Nordas (NOR).
Meet and Swiss Record for Lobalu
Dominic Lobalu (SUI) made his name known once again, winning the 3000m men’s race in London in a time of 7:27.68, shaving six seconds off his previous Swiss record and setting a meet record. As the final lap started, Lobalu sat back in fourth place in his second diamond league win, working his way forward to second place with 300m to go. As the final stretch began, Lobalu left Grant Fisher in his rearview as he stormed to the finish line. Edwin Kurgat (KEN) rounded off the podium. Fellow On athlete Telahun Haile Bekele narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming in fourth with a season-best time of 7:30.80. Jonas Raess (SUI) also ran a season-best time of 7:40.30, finishing 14th overall.
