European Indoor Champions: Ditaji Kambundji & Agathe Guillemot

Kambundji and Guillemot claimed gold, while Mills ran to silver, and Walcott-Nolan secured bronze in a photo-finish

APELDOORN, Netherlands, March 9, 2025 - At the European Indoor Championships, held in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, 19 On athletes from 11 countries competed across eight disciplines, securing two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

European Gold & Record for Kambundji

The first gold medal of the championships for On came from new signing Ditaji Kambundji (SUI) in the 60m hurdles. Her first European Title was nothing short of amazing, with Kambundji breaking the European Record previously set in 2008 and coming just 0.02 seconds shy of the world record and setting a world lead time.

Having run a 7.92 and 7.82 in the heats, Kambundji came into the final with confidence, but facing the challenge of dutch runner Nadine Visser, backed by her homecrowd. That however, was not able to stop Kambundji who crossed the finish line just 7.67 seconds after the start gun, securing the gold, PB and new European record. She shattered her own Swiss record by 0.13 seconds and became the first-ever Swiss European indoor champion in athletics.

Guillemot Out Runs Everyone

Olympic Champion Georgia Hunter Bell was the clear favorite in the 1500m final, but Agathe Guillemot was not going down without a fight. Sandwiched between Hunter Bell and fellow On athlete Revee Walcott-Nolan (GBR) for most of the race, Guillemot broke away in the final straight, using the power of her kick to secure the first Gold Medal for France at these European Indoor Championships. Crossing the finish line in 4:07.23, Guillemot comfortably ran to the European Title, followed by Salomé Alfonso and On athlete Walcott-Nolan, who crossed the finish line in the same time as Hunter Bell in 4:08.45 but Walcott-Nolan’s lean edged out Hunter Bell and she was awarded the bronze medal.

Silver for Mills

In a repeat of last summer’s outdoor European Championship in Rome, Mills once again had to settle for second place behind Jakob Ingebrigsten (NOR) in the 3000m final. Settling in at the back together for the first few laps of the track, Mills and Ingebrigsten made their way to the front with four laps to go, upping the tempo and looking to spread out the field. Mills led the field with three laps to go, with Ingrebrigsten on his shoulder until two and a half laps to go when he made his move. Mills clung on, but the gold was Ingebrigsten’s in 07:48.37, followed by Mills in 07:49.41.
