Geordie Beamish and Ditaji Kambundji win Gold in Tokyo
Their wins mark the first Outdoor World Championship Gold Medals for Swiss Sportswear Brand On

Tokyo, Japan, September 15, 2025 - Geordie Beamish won gold in the 3000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Tokyo, followed by Swiss 100m hurdler Ditaji Kambundji less than 20 minutes later, who took the gold in a new national record of 12.24 seconds.
From the back, to Gold
Sitting in the back until the last lap, the New Zealand runner, who is based in Boulder with the On Athletics Club, pushed to the front to take the win. His gold medal from Tokyo joins his indoor world championship medal from 2024.
Beamish’s way to the final was marked by a dramatic fall in his heats. While running to the front, he fell, and Canadian runner Jean-Simon Desganés couldn’t avoid stepping on him.
Beamish was joined in the final by local hero and fellow On athlete Ryuji Miura, who put up an incredible fight in front of his home crowd. Losing his balance in the last 10m, he finished in 8th place. Frederick Ruppert of Germany finished in 12th, and Getnet Wale of Ethiopia finished in 14th.
A First World Championship Gold for Ditaji Kambundji
Ditaji Kambundji is the 100m hurdles world champion. She outran Tobi Amusan (NGA) and Grace Stark (USA) to win her first world title with a new national record. Her finishing time was just 12 thousandths of a second away from the current world record.
The Swiss sprinter took the heats and semi-final in her stride and booked her spot in the final with little doubt that she was ready to win a medal. Crossing the line in 12.24, Kambundji was in disbelief as she saw her name pop up in first place, bursting into tears of joy as she realized what she had just accomplished.
Her win in Tokyo solidifies her as one of the best hurdlers in the world, adding to her previous bronze medals at the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 European Indoor Championships. It's also history for Switzerland as Ditaji becomes the first Swiss female to win a gold medal at the World Championships.
