Lisa Tertsch wins first World Triathlon Series in 2025
The Paris 2024 Mixed Team Relay Gold Medalist kicked off her 2025 season with an impressive win at the Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championship Series. The notable absences of Cassandre Beaugrand and Beth Potter left Tertsch as the top-ranked competitor and
From the start of the race, Tertsch was out for the win, putting herself in favorable positions in the swim and it became clear that if she was in the lead pack after the bike, it would be very hard for anyone to catch her, especially in the 5k sprint distance.
After a great T2 transition, Tertsch led the run from the start and with her decisive kick, she brought home the gold medal, followed by her german teammates Nina Eim and Laura Lindemann. This marked the first time in 14 years that three athletes of the same nationality stood on top of the podium at a WTCS race.
After the race, Tertsch said:
“The race went really well for me, I focused on preparing all the details and then just had to execute on race day. I knew from my performance in training that I was in good shape already. I had a really consistent and fun winter of training, so I knew I was ready for a great performance - but triathlon is always good for surprises and challenges and you are never safe until you are over the line!”
Western States Golden Ticket for Adrian McDonald
Finishing in third place at the Tarawera 102k Ultra in New Zealand was enough for Adrian McDonald to punch his golden ticket for the iconic Western States 100 Endurance run set for the 28th of June this year.
Following his success at the TMiler (162.5 km) last year, McDonald returned to Tarawera to compete in the T102 race, covering 103km and 2200m of elevation. With local hero and two-time winner Daniel Jones on the start line, a win would be tough to pull off. After 7:51.05 hours on the course, he crossed the finish line in third place.
Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB also functioned as a qualifying race for the 2026 UTMB World Series finals, which will take place in Chamonix, France. The top three finishers in the T102 secured direct entry to the CCC (100km) race, meaning that should McDonald choose to race the CCC in 2026, his qualification is already complete.
