Laura Thweatt Strengthens On Athletics Club Global Coaching Team

Boulder, Colorado, United States – June 19, 2025 – The On Athletics Club (OAC) Global Team is excited to announce the addition of American runner Laura Thweatt to its coaching staff. Thweatt joins Head Coach Dathan Ritzenhein and Assistant Coach Kelsey Quinn, bringing a wealth of expertise in road running disciplines to the 17-athlete strong roster.

Thweatt's journey in running began in Durango, Colorado, where she discovered her passion for the sport on her high school cross country team. She continued her collegiate career at the University of Colorado in Boulder before embarking on a distinguished 13-year professional career. During her professional tenure, she made three US Olympic Trials appearances, securing fifth place at two of them. Thweatt also earned three US cross country titles, made five US teams, and boasts a marathon personal best of 2:25. Her notable achievements include being the 2014 USATF Club Cross Country Champion, the 2015 USATF Cross Country Champion, finishing 7th at the Marathon in New York as the top American in her debut (2:28), and a 6th place finish at the 2017 Marathon in London, also as the top American.

Having recently retired from her professional athletic career, Thweatt's transition to coaching at the professional level was a clear next step. Over the past 13 years, she has cultivated a deep passion for coaching as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado. Beyond the high school level, Thweatt also dedicated two years as an athlete mentor for Voice In Sport, an online platform that supports young female athletes by providing resources and guidance.

OAC Global Head Coach Dathan Ritzenhein welcomed Thweatt to the coaching staff: "I'm incredibly excited to welcome Laura to the On Athletics Club Global coaching staff. With more of our athletes focusing on road running disciplines, it's invaluable to have someone with Laura's depth of experience to assist on the roads. The team has grown exponentially since its inception, and even more so since Kelsey joined. Kelsey’s been an incredible addition to the team on the trackside. Having Laura with her expertise on the road front provides an essential boost for me and the rest of the staff in our collective efforts as we continue to push the boundaries of performance and provide the best support to all our athletes."

Outside of her direct coaching and running endeavors, Thweatt is also active in the running media landscape. She has co-hosted two running podcasts, "Relay" (which she is still involved with) and "Lactic Acid with Dominique Smith." Last November, she served as a race expert and commentator for the first-ever iHeart Radio broadcast of the New York City Marathon.
