Lisa Tertsch wins World Cup Valencia, On athletes conclude a successful Diamond League season

As the season begins to wind down, On athletes continue to impress with podium results

Zurich, SWITZERLAND, September 16, 2024 - This past weekend saw several On-sponsored athletes deliver standout performances across major international events, including the Triathlon World Cup in Valencia and the Diamond League Final in Brussels.

Lisa Tertsch Wins World Cup Valencia

In her first race post-Olympics, Lisa Tertsch celebrated a triumphant return to competition by claiming victory at the World Cup in Valencia, Spain. The German athlete, fresh off her gold medal in the Mixed Relay at the Paris Olympics, showcased her class and form, powering through the running field to take the win.

A field of 40 women lined up at the start line in Valencia with Australia’s Emma Jeffcoat leading the charge as a four-women leading group emerged after the swimming portion of the event. Tertsch had been lurking in the pack during the bike segment but set a blistering pace in the final part of the race, cutting a 40-second gap in the last five minutes and finishing the sprint event in 55 minutes and 9 seconds, crossing the line seven seconds ahead of Britain's Olivia Mathias.

Diamond League Final in Brussels: Bekele and Jhinaoui Claim Podium Finishes

Telahun Haile Bekele of Ethiopia and Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui of Tunisia secured podium finishes at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, capping off a successful 2024 season for On athletes.

In the men’s 5000m, Bekele impressed with a third-place finish, crossing the line in 12:45.63, his second-fastest time ever. Fellow On athlete Dominic Lobalu delivered a solid performance, finishing ninth in 13:09.23, having recently recovered from Covid-19, which forced him to miss the Zurich leg of the Diamond League.

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui capped his breakout season with an excellent third-place finish, clocking a time of 8:09.68. His performance further solidifies his position as one of the rising stars in the steeplechase event.

The men’s 1500m provided its share of drama, as Yared Nuguse, bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, finished sixth in 3:32.30, despite a stumble with 300m to go. Olli Hoare of Australia finished 10th with a time of 3:34.13 in a competitive field.

Ethiopia’s Tsigie Gebreselama rounded out the weekend's results with a ninth-place finish in the women’s 5000m, recording a time of 14:49.79 in a highly competitive race.
