National Records Fall at the Feet of On Athletes
The Diamond League Meet in Oslo saw Mills, Lobalu, Farken and Riva rewrite national history books

Oslo, Norway, June 12, 2025 - At the 2025 Diamond League Meet in Oslo, On athletes delivered historic performances, with four athletes breaking national records, some of which had stood for over 30 years.
Mills beats Mo Farah’s Record
In the men's 5000m race, viewed by many as an attack on the world record, Kuma Girma (ETH), George Mills (GBR) and Dominic Lobalu (SUI), all came away with new PBs and in the case of Mills and Lobalu, new national records. Girma celebrated his new PB on the podium in third place, having crossed the finish line in 12:46.41. Mills, who led at the bell, was passed by Young (USA), Mehray (ETH) and Girma on the final lap, but nevertheless took 12 seconds off his own personal best to break Sir Mo Farah’s previous UK best, which had stood since 2011. His time of 12:46.59 also marks the second fastest time ever run by a European. Lobalu continued his streak, setting a new Swiss record of 12:50.87 and finishing in 10th place overall.
Silver Rabbit Attaoui Strikes Again
In the men’s 800m race, Mohamed Attaoui brought his signature kick to the track in Oslo, to secure silver in a blistering fast race. Edged out only by Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi (KEN), Attaoui crossed the finish line in 1:42.90, setting a season best time.
Farken and Riva record new National Records
In the men’s mile race, Robert Farke and Federico Riva both came away with new national records. Farken came away with a fifth-place finish and German national record in a time of 3:49.12. This comes less than a week after Farken broke the 45-year-old record in the 1500m distance. Federico Riva celebrated a new Italian national record, completing the mile in 3:49.72 and finishing in 10th place. He knocked two seconds off the previous record, which had stood since 1993.
World Champ Qualifying Time for Muleta and Wayment
The Women’s 3000m Steeplechase race saw Lomi Muleta (ETH) and Courtney Wayment (USA) narrowly miss the podium, finishing fifth and sixth, in times of 9:13.44 and 9:13.65, respectively. Despite missing the podium, both comfortably met the qualifying standard for the World Championships (09:18.00), set to take place in Tokyo later this year. Olivia Markezich (USA) finished in 11th place.
