National Records Tumble at the Feet of On Athletes

Over the weekend, On athletes secured new national records, season-best times, and a first-ever podium in a men’s World Triathlon Championship Series Race.

Zurich, Switzerland, July 15, 2024 - At the Monaco Diamond League, On athletes celebrated an exhilarating meet, with Mohamed Attaoui (ESP), Marta Garcia (ESP), and Agathe Guillemot (FRA) all setting new national records.

Mohamed Attaoui kicked off the celebrations in the men’s 800m race, running the two laps in a time of 1:42.04, knocking over 1.6 seconds off the previous Spanish record. Attaoui sat in last position as the bell rang out in what has become his signature move, overtaking all but one competitor in the final 400m. Not only did he secure a new PB and Spanish Record, but his time marked the fourth fastest in the world this year and the ninth-fastest performance of all time.

In a race in which Jessia Hull (AUS) broke the 2000m world record, Marta Garcia and Agathe Guillemot made their own history, both setting new national records. For Guillemot, it marked the second national record in the span of a week, having just set a new French 1500m a week prior at the Diamond League meet in Paris. Crossing the finish line in 5:32.63, she shaved nearly seven seconds off the previous record that had stood since 1986. Marta Garcia’s time of 5:32.86 resulted in a new Spanish record of nearly 10 seconds and marked her fourth Spanish national record this year. Previously, she had set records in the 5000m, 3000m track, and 5000m track distances.

In the men’s 1500m, Yared Nuguse (USA) and Oliver Hoare both ran a season-best time of 3:29.13 and 3:31.07, respectively.

On Athletes go First, Second, and Third in Lignano

At the Meeting Sport e Slodarieta Lignano in Italy, On athletes Sinta Vissa (ITA), Claudia Hollingsworth (AUS), and Maia Ramsden (NZL), swept the podium in the women’s 1500m race. Vissa led the charge, securing a new meeting record with her finishing time of 4:03.35. Hollingsworth followed in 4:03.95 and Ramsden rounded off the podium in a time of 4:04.28.

Le Corre secures a historic podium finish

At the World Triathalon Championship Series event in Hamburg, Germany, Pierre Le Corre (FRA) celebrated On’s first-ever male podium finish in the series, coming in third place while Lisa Tertsch (GER) secured On’s second female podium finish in the series.

In both races, it came down to the run to determine who would finish on the podium. For Tertsch, a sprint-off between her and British triathlete Beth Potter determined who would finish in second, behind French star Beaugrand, with Tertsch winning it by less than a second. In the men’s race, it came down to the second 2.5km lap for a lead pack to break away, with Matt Hauser (AUS) proving too strong to beat and Le Corre taking third in a time of 50:10.
