Swiss Sportswear Brand Extends Reach to Vibrant NW 23rd Avenue, Solidifying Presence Near Americas Headquarters

ZURICH, Switzerland, February 21, 2024 – Swiss performance sportswear brand On today announced the opening of its newest store in Portland, Ore., underscoring the company’s ongoing global retail expansion. The store will open Saturday, Feb. 24 on NW 23rd Avenue, a vibrant thoroughfare of shops and restaurants just a mile from the brand’s Americas headquarters.

Portland not only offers an incredible art and food culture, but its accessibility to the outdoors – for all forms of movement – is unbeatable. We’re thrilled to finally have a store in this city that reflects the dedicated community we’ve built here for the last 11 years.”

Across 3,400 square feet of retail space, On Portland will showcase the brand’s latest footwear, apparel and accessories curated in head-to-toe collections for run, trail and everyday movement. The centerpiece is the Magic Wall – a signature aspect of On’s stores around the world that innovates the traditional retail experience by giving shoppers an immediate try-on. The Magic Wall features hidden drawers with a full size-run of On’s latest footwear, allowing for more valuable interaction for consumers with On’s expert store advisors.

On Portland is the brand’s first store to introduce its new modular design system, making it possible to quickly reconfigure the layout to cater to evolving shopper preferences. The store has several interactive installations including one that highlights On’s revolutionary CloudTec technology, showing in real time how the cushioning adapts to unique movements by compressing horizontally and vertically. This store will replace On’s original Portland location, which opened in 2016, and give community members a much larger, more premium environment to explore the brand’s latest innovations.

On Drives Global Retail Expansion Amid Record Growth

In October 2023 at its Investor Day, On unveiled plans to significantly expand its global retail presence as part of its long-term ambition to build the most premium, global sportswear brand. The company will focus on growing its premium multichannel distribution, own retail presence and footprint in China. Currently, On has 32 stores around the world, including 22 in China. In 2023, the brand opened new stores in cities including Williamsburg, Miami, London and Paris. Throughout 2024, On plans to add 15 to 20 new stores in cities including Berlin, Austin and Chicago, with the vast majority in China. 

Since its founding in 2010, On has become one of the fastest growing sportswear brands in the world. In Q3 2023, On announced its strongest quarter in history across numerous measures and seventh consecutive record top-line quarter with net sales up 46.5% year-over-year globally (58% on constant currency basis). The company saw its highest gross profit margin since its September 2021 IPO, increasing to 59.9% in the third quarter 2023 from 57.1% in the comparable period in 2022.
