On Athletes celebrate in Istria, Berlin and Oceanside

On athletes have had another successful weekend, with five podium finishes in trail races, the fastest German at the Berlin Half marathon, the Linz Marathon winner, and a second-place finish at the Ironman 70.3 competition in Oceanside, US.

Glory on the Istrian Trails

Zurich, Switzerland, April 9, 2024 - On the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, Istria, On athletes delivered stellar performances across various distances at the Istria 100 by UTMB, a key race in the UTMB world series and a first test for the season ahead.

Across the 69.2km distance, Simon Gosselin (FRA) secured the win, crossing the finish line in 5:40.56 and with a 10-minute lead on second-place finisher Hans-Peter Innerhofer. With his victory, Gosselin has already secured qualification for the 2025 UTMB World Series final.

In the marathon distance, covering an elevation gain of 950m, Simon Schäppi of Austria took home the gold medal, completing the course in 3:01.35 and with a 13-minute lead ahead of the second place. Spanish On athlete Claudia Tremps claimed silver on the women's side, finishing the course in 3:55.02, 20 minutes behind Andrea Kolbeinsdottir of Iceland.

In the southeastern commune of Entrelacs, France, South African On athlete Megan Mackenzie tackled 705 meters of elevation gain to win the 22km Entrelacs Run and Trail race.

Fastest German and European Standard in Berlin

For Samuel Fitwi, taking to the start line in the German capital certainly paid off. Setting a new PB of 61.33, he crossed the finish line as the fastest German and dipped under the qualifying time for the European Championships in June later this year.

Goitom Kifle of Eriteria won the Linz Marathon on Sunday in a time of 2:08.15. After consecutive course records in Linz, race directors were hopeful for another new record at the 22nd edition of the race. However, warm temperatures dampened those hopes, and Kifle crossed the line 2 minutes short of the course record.

Third and Sixth Place Finishes for On Athletes in California

At the Ironman 70.3 in Oceanside, California, On athlete Paula Findlay of Canada crossed the finish line in third place. She was shortly bumped into second place after British athlete Emma Pallant-Browne was disqualified for excessive speeding in a controlled zone. Following an appeal, Pallant-Browne’s second place was reinstated and Paula Findlay held onto bronze.

Fellow On athlete Fenella Langridge (GBR) had led the pack out of the water but had to concede her lead to the future winner Taylor Knibb, crossing the finish in sixth place after 4:25.20.
