On Athletes Claim Top Honors at Vancouver T100 and Stockholm Diamond League

Podium Celebrations in Vancouver for Jelle Geens and Julie Derron, while PBs were broken, and tickets to Tokyo booked in Stockholm

Zurich, Switzerland, June 16, 2025 - On athletes delivered a series of standout performances across the globe, with Jelle Geens securing gold and Julie Derron clinching silver at the T100 tour in Vancouver, Canada. Meanwhile, in Stockholm, Sweden, Kuma Girma and Ky Robinson achieved double podium joy in the 5000m, while Federico Riva and Kristian Uldbjerg Hansen impressed in the 1500m.

Gold and Silver in Vancouver

During the third stop of the T100 tour in Vancouver, Canada, Jelle Geens (BEL) walked away with the win in the men’s field, while Julie Derron delivered a blistering run to claim silver in the women’s race.

Coming out of the water in 10th place, Geens faced a 41-second deficit. Undeterred, he used the bike leg to his advantage, steadily climbing to fifth place by T2, narrowing the gap to just 38 seconds. He tackled the run with blistering speed, closing in on leaders Bogen and Van Riel by the four-kilometer mark. Just six kilometers later, Geens seized the lead, with his Belgian compatriot, Van Riel, close behind. However, Geens held strong, crossing the finish line in a winning time of 03:12:49, 50 seconds ahead of Van Riel.

Swiss triathlete Julie Derron faced an uphill battle in the women's race. Emerging from the water in 11th place with a significant 90-second deficit, the Olympic silver medalist had her work cut out for her. Derron steadily gained ground on the bike, arriving at T2 still six minutes behind leader Taylor Knibbs, who was determined to maintain her lead. By the 11km mark of the run, Derron had powered into third place, though she still needed to close a four-minute gap on both Knibbs and Jessica Learmonth, who was holding strong in second. In a thrilling finish, with less than 500m to go, Derron surged past Learmonth to claim second place and the silver medal, finishing in 03:32:55. She also recorded the fastest run split of the day, completing the 18km course in an impressive 1:03:24.

Derron now sits in first place in the overall rankings, while Geens is in second place, nine points behind overall leader Van Riel.

Success in Stockholm

Just three days after the Oslo Diamond League, the next meet was held in Stockholm, Sweden. In the men’s 5000m, it was double podium joy for On athletes with Kuma Girma (ETH) and Ky Robinson (AUS) finishing second and third respectively. Both athletes dipped below the World Athletics Championships, and Robinson managed to secure a new PB on the way as well.

In the men’s 1500m, which is officially not part of the Diamond League Meet, it was a battle of George Mills (GBR), Mohamed Attaoui (ESP), and Federico Riva (ITA) from the On Athletic Club Europe. Riva had the strongest race among the three, finishing in second place in a time of 3:32.17, ahead of fellow On athlete Kristian Uldbjerg Hansen (Den). With a time of 3:32.60, he not only achieved the World Athletics Championships standard, but also became the second fastest Danish man ever in the 1500m distance. He was followed by Attaoui in 4th in a time of 3:32.63 and Mills in 5th in 3:32.67.
