On Athletes get comfortable in Paris and push themselves on the Trails

A thrilling weekend filled with the Diamond League meet in Paris and Trail races across the globe brought new PBs, national records, and podium finishes for On athletes.

Zurich, Switzerland, July 8, 2024—Just a few weeks before the Olympic Games land in Paris, five On athletes descended on the track in Paris to participate in the Diamon League meet. This exciting event saw new world records in both the female high jump and 1500m and saw On athletes set new national records, PBs, and a debut on the international stage.

On athlete, Agathe Guillemot secured a new French national record in front of her home crowd in the record-breaking women’s 1500m race, which saw Faith Kipyegon set a new world record. 3:58.05 is the time it took Guillemot to complete the three and three-quarter laps, lowering the previous record, which had stood for 14 years by over a second.

George Beamish of New Zealand set a New Zealand National Record and Oceania record in the 3000m Steeple Chase race. With a time of 8:09.64, Beamish improved his own national record by four seconds and took fifth place in the overall race.

Fellow On athlete Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui finished just ahead of Beamish in fourth place and also secured a new national record. The new Tunisian national record for 3000m SC now stands at 8:09.41, an improvement of one second that Jhinaoui had set a month early at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden.

In the women’s steeple chase race, Alicja Konieczek from Poland and Olivia Markezich from the US put on a show, with both athletes securing a new PB. For Markezich, the meet in Paris marked her first-ever Diamond League appearance, and her debut did not disappoint, as she came in 4th place with a new PB of 9:14.67. Konieczek celebrated a new PB of 9:17.20 and crossed the finish line in seventh place.

Fastest ever British Triathlete

At Challenge Roth, held in Bavaria, Germany, British Triathlete Tom Bishop celebrated his debut across the full triathlon distance and spectacularly did this. Completing the swim in 46:17, the bike in 4:05.46, and the run in 2:42.42, Bishop broke Alistair Brownlees' British record by 53 seconds. This incredible feat secured Bishop the silver medal behind three-time champion Magnus Ditlev.

Victory for Bekele in Hengelo

At the FBK Games in Hengelo, the Netherlands, Ethiopian On athlete Telahun Haile Bekele stormed to the top of the podium, taking home the win in a time of 13:01.12. French athlete Donovan Christien secured a fifth-place finish with his run in a time of 13:23.11.

Trail athletes celebrate titles across the Globe

The weekend proved to be highly successful, with five trophies being handed out to On athletes across the globe. In the US, David Norris won and broke the prestigious course record of the Mont Marathon. Completing the 5k course with nearly a kilometer of elevation in 40 minutes and 37 seconds, he broke the previous record by nearly a minute.

In the homeland of On, Kasia Solinska of Poland and Ezekiel Rutto of Kenya celebrated wins at the Trail Verbier St. Bernard by UTMB. Rutto took the win across the 26km distance and completed the course with 1700m of elevation gain in 02:32.03. Solinska celebrated the win in the 100k category, completing the 61km course with over 4000m of elevation in 08:03.54, nearly 45 minutes ahead of the second-place woman.

Genevieve Asselin-Demers had to wait nearly two hours in Quebec, Canada, before another female racer joined her in the finish area at the Quebec Mega Trail. She completed the 80km course with over 3000m of elevation in 09:35.21, setting a new course record and finishing 5th in the overall ranking.

At the Großglockner Mountain Run World Cup, the Run2gether team, supported by On, swept the men’s podium with Richard Omaya Atuya taking gold in 01:10.04, Josphat Kiprotich taking silver in 01:10.25 and Micahel Selelo Saoli rounding it off in 01:12.42. Filmon Abraham, who typically sticks to road running, completed the 13.3km course with 1300m of elevation in 01:13.57 and secured sixth place. In the women’s field, Philaries Jeruto Kisang and Gloria Chebet, also members of the Run2gether team, secured the silver and bronze medals.
