On Athletes Put on a Show at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic
In two days, Team On claimed four new national records, seven athletes ran Olympic Standards, and 15 set new personal bests.
Boston, United States of America, January 27, 2024 - With all eyes on Paris, and snow still on the ground, an incredible roster of On athletes took to the indoor track at Boston University. The Terrier Classic meet stretched over two days and showcased not only an impressive collegiate field but also top distance runners from around the world who are striving to beat national records and hit Olympic qualifying marks.
Going into the weekend, the energy was palpable. Unlike at a collegiate meet, where runners race for points for their school, this time, they were racing the clock, anxious to hit the Olympic qualifying time. Athletes flocked from all corners of the globe to toe the line and a strong lineup of more than 20 athletes represented On across four events.
OAC Europe’s Noah Baltus kicked things off mid-afternoon on day 1, competing in the mile and setting a Dutch National record of 3:54.81. Inspired by their teammate, 10 On men lined up for the 12.5 lap 5000m race at 7:40 pm. With eight nations represented, they pushed each other to incredible performances: Nine of them hit personal bests and three set national records. Four athletes, George Mills, Yared Nuguse, Geordie Beamish, and Ben Flanagan, achieved the Olympic standard, all finishing below 13:05.
After the incredible results on the men’s side on Friday night, the On women took to the track in the 3000m and 5000m races. Sage Hurta-Klecker kicked things off in the 3000m, finishing in 9:05.03, a personal best for the 25-year-old. Following the lead of their male counterparts, On athletes set five personal bests in the 5000m race, with three women, Marta Garcia, Josette Andrews, and Courtney Wayment hitting the Olympic standard. Garcia’s speedy time of 14:46.37 was a Spanish National Record at the same time.
On’s Global Head of Athlete Strategy and Partnership, Flavio Calligaris, was more than impressed with Team On: “Crazy performances by our athletes. We have come so far with On athletes now leading the races. We will continue to push with Paris in our sights.”
