From Photo-Finishes to Record-Breakers: On Athletes Celebrate Success at National Championships Across the Globe

Zurich, Switzerland, August 4th, 2025 -Swiss sportswear brand On is celebrating the success of its athletes across the globe and multiple national championships over the past weekend. Securing a combined total of 28 podium finishes and 12 national titles, On athletes showcased their dominance, from decisive photo-finishes in Germany to record-breaking victories in Spain and Canada.
Gold and tickets to Tokyo for Farken and Kallabis
At the German National Championships held in Dresden, Robert Farken and Jolanda Kallabis secured gold in the 1500m distance. Farken stayed with the pack until the last corner before kicking and establishing a lead, ultimately capturing the title in 3:46.96. In the women’s race, the decision came down to a photo finish between Kallabis and Nele Wessel. Kallabis had already kicked when Wessel caught up to her on the final straight before crossing the finish line neck and neck. In the end, the decision fell in favor of Kallabis, who was given the time of 4:25.88, just two thousandths of a second ahead of Wessel. Both Kallabis and Farken will travel to Tokyo in September to represent Germany at the World Athletics Championships.
In the 3000m steeplechase competitions, Frederik Ruppert and Olivia Gürth both secured silver medals, while in the 5000m, Florian Bremm also secured silver, completing the 12.5 laps in 13:50.42.
Golden Spanish Duo Garcia and Attaoui
At the Spanish National Championships in Tarragona, there was no stopping Marta Garcia and Mohamed Attaoui from defending their national titles. Competing in the 5000m distance, Garcia led the race from start to finish, with a considerable gap building from the halfway point. Crossing the finish line in 14:59.23, she smashed the championship record and recorded her fourth consecutive national title - the first time since 2001 that a runner has completed this feat.
Attaoui claimed his second consecutive 800m national title, pulling away from the rest of the field with about 300m to go. Completing the race in 1:46.22, he now has his eyes set on the World Champs in Tokyo, where both he and Garcia will represent Spain.
Riva and Cavalli - Italian Athletics Dream Duo
In Italy, Federico Riva proved that he is the best Italian 1500m runner, taking home the national title in 3:41.53, just a week after setting a new national record in the mile. He previously won the title in 2024, as well as at the indoor championships earlier this year and last year. OAC Europe teammate and girlfriend Ludovica Cavalli secured silver in the women’s 1500m race, completing the distance in 4:07.91. Eleonora Curtabbi claimed the second silver in Italy for On athletes, finishing three seconds behind Gaia Colli in the 3000m steeplechase.
Golden Times in Norway, Slovakia, and Luxembourg
Jacob Boutera (NOR), Gabriela Gajanova (SVK), and Charles Grethen (LUX) all secured national titles in their respective competitions. Boutera defended his national title in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 8:24. Grethen took home the 1500m title with nearly a three-second lead on the second-place finisher, while Gajanova completely dominated the 800m, winning the national title in 2:00.02, eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Silver and Bronze Times in France, the Netherlands, and the UK
In Talence, France, Corentin Le Clezio and Agathe Guillemot both secured silver medals in their races. Guillemot, who was looking to defend her title, was surprised by Adele Gay in the final straight, who secured the victory in 4:04.12, with Guillemot claiming silver in 4:04.49. In the men’s 800m, Le Clezio missed out on gold by three thousandths of a second, settling for silver behind Yanis Meziane. In the women’s 800m, Charlotte Pizzo celebrated the bronze medal in a time of 2:03.89.
The bronze medals kept coming for On athletes in the UK, with Cari Hughes securing third in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:41.66 and setting a new Welsh record. Revee Walcott-Nolan secured her bronze medal in the 1500m in 4:16.39 behind Laura Muir and Sarah Calvert.
In Hengelo, the Netherlands, Noah Baltus won the silver medal in the 1500m, losing only to Samuel Chapple, who claimed the title in many ways due to a tactically smart race.
South and North American Athletes Secure National Titles and Tickets to Tokyo
In Mexico, new On athlete Lorena Rangel Batres stood out at the national championships, taking first place in the 800m distance before coming back to claim silver in the 1500m.
At the US National Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, there was delight for Sage Hurta-Klecker and Josette Andrews, who both made their first senior US Outdoor Team after years of trying. Diving across the finish line to secure her spot, Hurta-Klecker secured the bronze medal and ticket to Tokyo in the 800m, holding off fourth-place finisher Nia Akins by only 0.04. In a slightly less dramatic fashion, Andrews also claimed the bronze medal to book her ticket to Tokyo.
A few weeks after her exceptional pro-debut on the Diamond League circuit, Isabella Whittaker booked her ticket to Tokyo by claiming second in the 400m race at the US Nationals. Finishing just behind Sydney McLaughlin in 49.59, Whittaker will head to her first World Athletics Championships.
Up north, in Ottawa, Canada, Marissa Papaconstantinou kicked off the 2025 Canadian Track and Field Championships with a bang, breaking her Canadian record in the women’s T64 100m race. Clocking 12.84 seconds, she broke her previous record of 12.90. She returned to compete in the T64 200m race, only to smash the record again, running a 26.94.
