On Releases its 2024 Impact Progress Report
The report outlines On's progress towards its north star - to build a fair and inclusive future, driving progress on circularity and renewable materials.

ZURICH, Switzerland, April 24, 2025 – Swiss sportswear brand On today released its 2024 Impact Progress Report, detailing its sustainability journey amid rapid growth and a commitment to minimizing negative impacts while creating positive change. The report highlights key achievements, ongoing challenges, and future strategies.
On's commitment to driving positive industry change is underscored in its latest impact progress report, which outlines goals to address operational scale and heightened stakeholder expectations.
“2024 has been a year of learning for On, powered by bold innovation and rapid growth,” said Begüm Kürkçü, Senior Director of Sustainability at On. “While we celebrate the strides we've taken, we also recognize the challenges that come with growth. We are committed to tackling these head-on, with a focus on circularity, climate action, and social responsibility. Our 2024 Impact Progress Report reflects our dedication to transparency and our belief that progress requires continuous learning, adaptation, and collaboration. We believe that sustainability is not just about reducing our negative impacts, but also about creating positive change. We are committed to working with our team members, partners, athletes, and our communities to build a more sustainable future.”
The 2024 Impact Progress Report outlines On's strategy, progress, and goals across its four key focus areas: Foundations, Social Impact, Material Innovation, and Circularity.
Key Highlights and Challenges from the 2024 Report:
- Foundations: On acknowledges the significant challenges in reducing its climate impact amidst rapid expansion. Despite On's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and decoupling emissions from growth through enhanced measurement, preferred materials, and responsible business practices, absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions increased by 13% compared to 2023, while Scope 3 relative emissions measured by economic intensity also rose by 3% compared to 2023. At the same time, On notes that its emissions grew at a lower rate than its production volumes and its average emissions per product declined. On also demonstrated substantial progress in responsible business practices, including phasing out coal in Tier 1 suppliers and achieving 100% renewable electricity for offices and stores.
- Circularity: On has continued the growth of its Onward™ resale platform in the US, explored care and repair services through the CarryOn pilot in China, and expanded the Cyclon™ program with new product options and increased flexibility for customers. On is also actively addressing challenges in its Cyclon™ program, specifically shoes being returned before they're worn out or not returned at all. Furthermore, On achieved a 99% diversion of manufacturing waste from landfills, with 45% sent to energy recovery, 21% to recycling, and 33% to incineration. It also maps resource flows to identify opportunities for waste reduction and recovery.
- Material Innovation: In 2024, On advanced sustainable design by increasing its use of Preferred Materials (materials sourced carefully to use less water, fewer harmful chemicals, and lower carbon emissions) and beginning to integrate sustainability analysis, including emissions reduction targets, into design processes. This included an increased use of Preferred Materials, with 84% of polyester fibers sourced from recycled or renewable resources, up from 80% in 2023. On also developed an internal guidebook for product, design, and creation teams to integrate sustainable practices. Furthermore, the introduction of the innovative LightSpray™ technology marks a significant step forward, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 75% in upper production compared to conventional upper making methods used with other On shoes. On is excited to scale up the use of sustainable materials knowing that it remains a significant challenge.
- Social Impact: On strengthened its commitment to social responsibility in 2024. This included the development of a Human Rights and Labor Rights Due Diligence Policy in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration. Right To Run, On’s flagship program, rooted in its mission to ignite the human spirit through movement, also continued to expand, promoting access to movement and supporting communities, with CHF 2.5M donated to over 75 organizations globally helping over 292,000 people engaging in movement. On also made progress in ensuring living wages in its supply chain, with its Tier 1 footwear facilities in Vietnam paying their employees above the locally mandated legal minimum wage - on average paying 184% of the local minimum - and seven out of ten footwear suppliers in Vietnam meeting the Global Living Wage Coalition (GLWC) standard. These suppliers represent roughly 90% of On’s footwear production by volume in Vietnam and 80% of On’s global footwear production by volume. Moving forward, On is committed to carrying out living wage assessments for all Tier 1 facilities for footwear, apparel, and accessories.
