On signs Flavio Cobolli as the latest ATP player to join its expanding tennis roster

The Swiss sportswear brand adds the 22 year-old Italian, together with three of today's most promising junior players ascending on the world stage.

Zurich, Switzerland, May 15, 2024 - On, the Swiss sportswear brand continues to deepen its roster of world-class talent, adding the gifted Italian player Flavio Cobolli and three of today’s most promising juniors to its expanding tennis roster.

Cobolli will join the WTA world number one, Iga Świątek, rising star Ben Shelton, and Brazilian break-through youngster João Fonseca as part of On’s stable of current and future champions, together with junior tennis marvels Reda Bennani (MAR), Julia Stusek (GER) and Yeri Hong (KOR).

Speaking on the expansion of the tennis roster, Feliciano Robayna, Head of Athlete Management for Tennis at On, says, “The objective with our initial recruitment strategy last year was to make a major impact with our signings of Iga, Ben and João. The ambition moving forward is to continue with this strong momentum and establish sustainable, long-term success with fresh faces who will electrify tennis with their game and unwavering attitude.”

Flavio Cobolli turned pro in 2020 after winning the French Open Boys Doubles title with Dominic Stricker. After making his ATP Tour debut in 2021, Cobolli has risen through the ranks, breaking into the Top 100 for the first time in 2023. He currently ranks 56 in the world.

The Cobolli name is a familiar one on the tennis circuit. Stefano Cobolli, Flavio’s father, was a tennis player himself, reaching a career-high ranking of 236 in the 90s.

Flavio said about his father’s influence: “I picked my first tennis racket because my father was a tennis player. Since I was very young, he brought me to his tournaments, so my passion was born watching him, and I decided this would be a great career too.”

It wasn’t always clear whether Cobolli would follow in his father's footsteps or follow his other passion, football. Despite a promising stint in the AS Roma U15 academy team, Cobolli ultimately decided to pursue a tennis career, being responsible for his own success and failure as an individual athlete. He said, “I chose tennis because I love that every emotion, success, and disappointment depends on me alone and not because of what my teammates do.”

In 2023, Cobolli returned to the French Open, this time featuring in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time. Cobolli kicked off 2024, where he left off in 2023, reaching the main draw at the Australian Open as the top qualifying seed and recording top-20 and top-50 wins when he unseated Nicolas Jarry and Pavel Kotov to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

“I’m very excited to be joining the On. It’s a big honor for me to join a brand that already works with great names like Iga Świątek, Roger Federer, and Ben Shelton. It makes me very proud that they believe in me, and I look forward to chasing my dreams with On by my side starting at Roland Garros.”

Julia Stusek

Born into a family of tennis enthusiasts, Julia Stusek is considered one of the most extraordinary young talents in German tennis. Ranked 39 on the ITF Junior Tour, the 15-year-old has already made waves on the professional tour, reaching a career-high WTA ranking of 749 in August 2023.

In 2022, Stusek won the ‘Les Petits As’ tournament, a prestigious junior tennis tournament previously won by Rafel Nadal, Frances Tiafoe, and Martina Hingis. Later that same year, she won her first professional tennis match at the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup, making her way through the qualifying rounds and into the second round of the main draw.

Regarding her decision to join On, Stusek said, “On is a unique, young, and creative brand, and their products are simultaneously geared towards performance and fashion. I am excited to be able to wear and represent this European-based brand on and off the tennis court.”

Yeri Hong

Yeri Hong from South Korea shows promising talent at just 13 years of age, recording an 86% winning in 2024 thus far. With a junior ranking of 991, Hong has established herself as a talent to watch on the junior tour, being the only girl born in 2011 within the ITF’s Top 1000. In April 2023, Hong won the prestigious IMG Future Stars tournament, featuring the top girls 12 and under worldwide. She continued her fine form, winning the inaugural U14 ITF Asian Junior Championships, and was selected to represent the Korean team at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals.

Asked about her goals for the year, Hong said, “My goal is to gather enough points on the ITF junior circuit to play J200 and J300 events. The long-term goal is to move up step by step and win a Grand Slam.”

Reda Bennani

One of the most promising tennis talents from the African continent, Moroccan Reda Bennani is the third junior to join the Swiss sportswear brand this year. Hailing from Casablanca, and fascinated by tennis since age four, Bennani gained international recognition for the first time last year.

“After picking up a racquet at the age of four, I always dreamed of winning a Grand Slam,” says Bennani. “I’m blessed to have a wonderful team around me and the support of my family, who are all helping me work towards my personal goal. It’s a huge step in my career to sign with such an innovative brand that is making a huge impact on the tennis world, like On. It’s a real privilege to join ranks with Iga, Ben, and João, and I’m very excited to represent On on-court.”

Bennani’s 2023 season started with 17 wins in 23 matches. Playing strictly on clay courts, it didn’t take long for his talent to be picked up after he received a wild card to enter the qualifying rounds for the Madrid Open. Bennani demonstrated his talent at the Under-18 African Championship later that year, taking home the title. In 2024, he started his season winning the J300 ITF tournament in Cairo, Egypt and has climbed to a current ITF Junior ranking of 22.

On launched into tennis in 2022, releasing its first on-court competition shoe, THE ROGER Pro. A year later, the Swiss company disrupted the tennis world again, announcing women’s world number one, Iga Świątek, Ben Shelton, and João Fonseca as the first signings to its tennis roster. At the start of 2024, tennis fans worldwide were able to replicate their tennis idols on-court, with On tennis apparel available at retail for the first time.

With On athletes and its apparel collection having featured in a Grand Slam title, a WTA Finals Championship, a US Open Boy’s Singles Championship, and a US Open semi-final run in the last year, On is now looking to the next generation of talent to help further establish its brand presence on and off the court.
