On Signs Japanese Steeplechase Star Ryuji Miura
Miura becomes the second Japanese athlete to sign with Swiss sportswear brand On

TOKYO, Japan, April 22, 2025 - Swiss sportswear brand On has announced the signing of Japanese rising star, Ryuji Miura. Miura is a team member of SUBARU Track and Field Team and holds the Japanese national record in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Miura first announced himself to Japan's track and field world in 2019 when he broke the 30-year-old Japanese 3000m steeplechase high school record as a 17-year-old. He then rose to international attention when he set a world-leading time, ultimately becoming the eighth fastest time in the 3000m steeplechase discipline in 2020, when he won the Hokuren Distance Challenge.
Representing Japan at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics on home soil, Miura achieved an impressive seventh-place finish in the steeplechase final. He further solidified his status on the world stage with a sixth-place finish at his debut World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, two years later. These achievements mark him as the highest-placing Japanese steeplechaser in the history of both the Olympics and the World Championships. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Miura competed in his second consecutive Olympic final at Paris 2024, clocking 08:11.72 to secure eighth place and an Olympic diploma, a feat that makes him the first Japanese track athlete to earn diplomas in consecutive Olympic Games.
Beyond his national record in the 3000m steeplechase, Miura's dominance in the discipline is underscored by his ownership of the Japanese student record, the U20, U18, and high school sophomore records. He also holds the U20 and U18 national records in the 2000m steeplechase and the U20 national record in the 3000m flat.
This year, his sights are set on winning a medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He will make his debut as an On athlete at the prestigious Xiamen Diamond League on April 26th, 2025.
Speaking on his decision to join On, Miura said:
"On is a brand full of momentum, and I have been greatly inspired by it. With this new contract, I renew my determination and aim to level up with On. My biggest goal this year is the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. On the global stage, I hope to achieve high places that I haven’t yet reached—like winning a medal—together with On. A new chapter of challenges begins as I aim to level up. As an On athlete, I’m committed to showing everyone my best on the world stage."
Welcoming Miura to the team, On's Athlete Manager Steve DeKoker commented:
“We are delighted to announce the addition of Ryuji Miura to the On Team. His established talent on both national and international circuits speaks volumes. With the upcoming World Athletic Championships on home soil, this is a particularly exciting time for us to join forces with Ryuji, and we look forward to supporting him on this exciting journey.”
