On Takes the Next Step in its Journey Toward Circularity – Aiming to Take Responsibility for Every Product it Sells
By transitioning our Cyclon™ subscription model to a circular services program, the brand enables customers in select markets to shop refurbished items and trade in used gear for credit toward future purchases, helping keep products moving and out of landfills.

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND - March 17, 2026 - On reaches a new milestone in its journey to challenge the ‘use and throw away’ model. With the launch of the next step of Cyclon™, the brand is incentivizing the return of pre-loved On products and enabling the purchase of refurbished gear, helping to keep products in use and materials in circulation for as long as possible.
Items in excellent condition are prepared for resale through the evolved program. Pieces that are not fit for resale will be donated via partner organizations. If donation is not possible, the products will be recycled. By partnering with experienced donation organizations and regional recyclers, On aims to keep materials moving, beyond their first finish line.
“We will use information gathered from returned products and our regional recyclers to engineer better material choices and recyclability into future products,” said Begum Kurkcu, Senior Director of Sustainability at On. “Circularity at On is not just about trade-ins, resale, donation or recycling – it’s about relentlessly innovating circular materials, extending product lifespans, and minimizing waste at every stage.”
This mission to eliminate waste begins long before a shoe reaches a customer. The brand is increasing efforts to source circular materials – including recycled and regenerative options – and bringing them to life across the product line. For instance, the Cloud 6 and Cloudnova now feature bio-attributed foam and recycled material in the upper.
Beyond materials, On’s commitment to minimizing waste at the source is exemplified by its LightSpray™ innovation – a process that uses a single step to spray material to create shoe uppers, designed to significantly reduce manufacturing waste compared to traditional piece-by-piece construction.
By combining product and manufacturing innovations with the new circular services program, On is tackling waste from both ends: reducing what is created and taking responsibility for what is sold.
Launched in 2022 as a subscription-based service for sportswear that was designed to be recycled, the original Cyclon™ program offered valuable, first-hand information about materials and ownership models. The insights gained were instrumental, providing key learnings that have enabled On to progress and expand its circularity efforts into this more scalable program.
As part of this evolution, the subscription service will be discontinued, making way for a brand-wide resale-donation-recycling ecosystem. This shift represents the next step of Cyclon™, moving from a specific collection of products to taking responsibility for every product it sells, with the goal of ensuring more products and materials remain in use for longer.
Previously available only via subscription, starting in June 2026, the full line of Cyclon™ collection products, all designed to be recycled, will be offered for direct purchase. On will continue to collect returned Cyclon™ collection products for recycling and will use the recycled material in new shoe parts or other products in other industries.
Cyclon™ Resale launches today in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with intent to expand in additional countries and regions. To start a trade-in or to shop pre-loved and refurbished gear, visit cyclon.on.com.
