On the right track: Kioko and Miller take wins in Portland

On athletes Athanas Kioko and Aaliyah Miller take convincing wins at Portland Track Fest, Joe Klecker, Sinta Vissa and Marta Garcia set new personal bests at Diamond League Florence and Tsigie Gebreselama takes third and a new personal best in a world leading time 10,000m race at FBK Games in the Netherlands.

Zurich, Switzerland, June 5, 2023 - On Track athletes were on the right track this weekend. A host of new competitions brought on yet another onslaught of wins, podiums, and PBs from Portland to Hengelo.

Miller and Kioko shine at Portland Track Fest

On athlete Aaliyah Miller and the more recent joiners, Athanas Kioko and Kieran Lumb had a great weekend at Portland Track Fest. Athanas dominated the 10,000m race on Saturday night and ran to 27:29 solo. Miller took her first pro win in the women’s 800m race, running away from the field in 2:02. Finally Kieran Lumb set a new personal best for the second week in a row running in the men’s 1500m by finishing in 3:35.43.

Records galore at Diamond League Florence

Telahun Haile Bekele was 5th with a new season best in the men’s 5000-meter race in Florence which featured a stacked field. Bekele finished in 12:54.31, while OAC's Joe Klecker came in with 12:55.16 which meant the 7th place and a new personal best for the American.

Meanwhile, wife Sage Hurta-Klecker was part of a new world record effort set by Faith Kipyegon. Hurta-Klecker paced 900 of the eventual 3:49.11 that the Kenyan took to finish and break an eight-year-old mark by Genzebe Dibaba in 2015. In the same race, OAC’s Josette Andrews stormed to rank seven in 4:01.39, and teammate Sinta Vissa and OAC Europe’s Marta Garcia both set new personal records with 4:01.98 and 4:07.22. They finished 9th and 14th respectively.

In the 3000m steeplechase, On’s Courtney Wayment finished in 8th place in a time of ​ 9:11.41, which meant a season-best for the American.

FBK Games in Hegelo

The Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, Netherlands saw a very fast women’s 10,000m race that resulted in a new world-leading time set by the outstanding Sifan Hassan. On’s Tsigie Gebreselama came in third with a new personal best of 30:04.45. 

OAC Europe’s Luke McCann and Noah Baltus competed on the 1500m distance and finished 6th (3:38.62) and 13th (3:41.32) respectively.
