On Track Nights Heads Down Under

The final event in the global series is coming to Melbourne

Zurich, Switzerland, July 25, 2023 - The final event of On Track Nights will be held down under as the Swiss sportswear brand On’s global running series ends in Melbourne. The evening of events will include food, music, and of course, fast races from amateur to professional divisions.

Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne will be the number one place for athletics enthusiasts to watch some of the country’s top runners and upcoming talent. Tapping into the city’s title as the sporting capital of Australia, local runners will also get a chance to compete in the community squad race.

On will be working with Zatopek Information + Stats via Athletics Victoria to host the evening’s events. Spanning more than six decades, Zatopek is a name synonymous with world-class 10,000m track racing. From Ron Clarke’s World Record breaking performances in the 1960s through to Stewart McSweyn’s recent Australian record, this event has showcased the best Australian distance racing talent for several generations and provided international athletes the ability to take part in a highly competitive and prestigious 25-lap race.

"Athletics Victoria’s partnership with On is a great match, as we share a desire to both honour our traditions while innovating and elevating the experience for our people. To that end, Athletics Victoria is delighted to be partnering with On in the delivery of Zatopek 2023, one of the most historically significant events on the annual athletics calendar. Zatopek 2023 will see innovations to both the race program and spectator experience, taking the event to new heights. Combining the organizational expertise of AV with the innovative approach that On are bringing to global athletics events, we look forward to furthering our partnership with On, and showcasing our sport to both new and existing audiences alike."

A food court and beer tunnel will be onsite to provide spectators with refreshments throughout the night.

The races slated for the evening will feature some of the fastest high schoolers in the country with Men’s and Women’s Mile races as well as the 3k Junior Australian Title.

Some of the top professional athletes in the region will be present as the OAC Oceania will line up for the distance races.

Melbourne’s rich history of athletics and commitment to sports influenced the decision to bring ‘On Track Nights’ to the city. Large events, like the 1956 Olympics and 2006 Commonwealth Games, brought spectators and fans from around the world to Melbourne. Most recently, the city hosted six Women’s World Cup Matches over the summer and annually welcomes the top tennis talent to the Australian Open.
