On Track Nights Paris - A Night of 86 PBs and Meeting Records

Personal bests and meeting records fell in the Parisian suburb of Maisons-Laffitte as athletes lined up across 19 races at the Fast 5000, the final European stop of the On Track Nights Series.

Paris, France, July 6, 2024—The third stop of the On Track Nights Series brought together over 400 runners across 19 races, with plenty of new personal bests, meeting records, and a new French U23 record.

Spectators were invited to the Parc des Sports de Maisons-Laffitte to enjoy a day of racing, great weather, and an even better atmosphere. From a kids' play area to nail designs, tattoos, and dance workshops, there was plenty to see and do. The day started off with a Community track event and kids' race before the club-level adults and pros tied up their laces and took to the start.

Club-level races deliver fast times

As the event name suggests, the Fast 5000 event centered around the 12-track-lap event, with a total of 14 5000m races occurring across the day. The club-level races kicked it off, with Dotime Boudoussier (FRA) winning the first women’s 5000m of the day with a new PB of 18:02.55 and Quentin Millet (FRA) taking home the win in a season’s best time of 15:30.20. The winners of the other 5000m races were Matteo Lobry (FRA) with a new PB of 15:20.18, Lucas Baverel (FRA) in 15:06.69, Julie Giacomelli (FRA) in 17:11.41, Ahmed Irgagne (MAR) in 14:47.62, Louis Matte (FRA) in 14:26.42, Laura Ribigini (ITA) in 16:34.86, Manolo Pierson (FRA) in 14:11.59 and Dylan van der Hock (ARG) in 13:48.95.

3000m Races Deliver Meet Records

Next to the 5000m races, two 3000m races brought the speed to the Parc des Sports, with both the men’s and women’s races setting a new meet record. In the men’s race, it was Pierre Grandin (FRA) who took the win and set a new meet record in 8:41.74, followed by Louis Kohnen and Benjamin Canzonieri (FRA), who both came away with a season-best time. In the women’s race, Gwladys Bouzat (FRA) led the pack and crossed the finish line in 10:11.48, setting a new meet record and winning by over 10 seconds. Clotilde Girault and Maryline Ferraz rounded off the all-french podium, both securing new PBs.

A brief change of rhythm

Before the elite 5000m races took place, the women’s 2000m race and the men’s 1000m races changed up the rhythm on the track. In the 2000m race, New Zealander Laura Nagel secured the win and a new PB as she finished the race in 5:45.51, just ahead of Vera Coutellier (GER) and Katia Delarche (FRA). Alice Seguin (FRA), who missed out on the podium by just one second, still had plenty to celebrate as her time of 5:48.39 meant she had set a new U23 French Record for the 2000m distance. In the first 1000m race, Amine Brahimi (ALG) ran a season-best time of 2:18.79 to take home the win ahead of Corentin Magnou (FRA) and Sacha Liguori (FRA). A little bit tighter, Paul Anselimin (FRA) took the win in the second 1000m race, just 20 milliseconds ahead of Mathew Kpichumba Kipsang (KEN) and Piers Copeland (GBR).

On Athletes shine in elite races

To round off the night, the fastest runners in town took to the start line, with On athletes dominating the podiums. In the women’s elite race, On Tuscany Camp’s Francine Niyomukinzi (BDI) broke the finish line tape first. With her time of 14:42.77, Niyomukinzi set a new meet record and improved her best time by two seconds from the time she ran at the On Track Nights Vienna two weeks ago. In the men’s race, fellow On Tuscany Camp runner Egide Ntakarutimana delivered the same feat, finishing with a new PB of 13:00.74 as well as a meeting record. His teammate Yves Nimubona joined him on the podium in third place in a new season-best time of 13:14.01.
