Personal bests and records tumble at hot On Track Nights edition in Paris
FAST5000, the third event in the On Track Night series delighted numerous spectators with tumbling records and PBs, hot temperatures and plenty of festival feeling in the Parisian suburb of Montesson.
Paris, France, June 11, 2023 - 97 personals bests, three national records, and a fun-filled day - FAST5000, the third event of the On Track Nights series, did not disappoint.
A total of 19 club-level and elite races plus a children’s and run crew event, offered ample entertainment for the approximately 4500 spectators who had made their way to the Parc de Sport in Montesson. Beyond that, spectators enjoyed a large range of activities from dance workshops, nail design and tattoos, to a t-shirt customization station where clothing could be personalized with motives from local artist Atelier Choque Le Goff. A big play area invited offered entertainment for the smallest visitors.
Fast times, personal bests, and national records
Next to the thirteen 5000m races that give the event its name, two 3000m races, as well as two men’s 1500m events and a women’s mile were on the program of the day. Right in the spirit of the event, which is meant to offer opportunities for club-level and elite runners alike to set new personal bests and achieve standards for different title events, 97 of the runners on start managed to run faster than ever before.
The French duo Théo Lamotte and Noemie Garnier prevailed in the two 3000m races which opened the day, and in the following twelve 5000m races, times got progressively faster. The winners were Theo Noel (15:41.88), Jasmine Mogis (18:08.44), Christopher Gerard (15:15.67), Theo Persenot (15:02.06), Fatiha Idmhand (17:39.83), Hugo Boudot (15:06.65), Florian Girard (14:39.18), Chloe Lenoir (16:58.81), Corentin Prouteau (14:19.23), Romain Legendre (14:00.58) and Samia Hassan (15:21.76).
Before the elite-level 5000m races were on schedule, three shorter 1500m and mile races changed up the rhythm on the track. Italian Yassin Bouih (3:39.05) was successful in the men’s 1500m B race, while Norwegian Gilje Narve Nordas was overjoyed with a new personal best of 3:32.39 in the men’s A race. The women’s mile was won by American Nikki Hiltz in an incredible world-leading time of 4:22.07. During the same race, local hero Alice Finot had the stadium go wild as they witnessed a new French record (4:26.68) being set.
Ethiopian Eisa Medina and Kenya’s Kibet Levy took the wins in the two elite races, finishing in 14:46.60 and 13:04.21 respectively. Mohamed Ismail broke the Djiboutian national record with 13:04.39, and Slovenian Klara Lukan set yet another national record with a time of 15:01.37 in the women's event.
On athletes chime in with personal bests
On athletes were out in force at this third stop of On Track Nights and achieved spectacular results in the course of the day, even though the hot and heavy conditions caused some casualties and forced athletes to abandon their races in the course of the day.
Tuscany Camp’s Egide Ntakarutimana was fifth with a new personal best of 13:06.76 in the men’s 5000m race while Swiss On athlete Jonas Raess set a new personal best of 13:13.83. OAC’s George Beamish returned from trying his hand at steeplechase races and finished eighth. He also improved his personal best to 13:14.79. OAC Europe’s George Mills ran his first-ever track 5000m race and finished tenth in 13:18.33.
Francine Niyomukinzi was the best On athlete in the women’s 5000m race on rank twelve but improved her personal best to 15:08.60, alongside Hannah Steelmann who finished with a new personal best of 15:26.73. OAC Europe’s Aimee Pratt posted a season-best of 15:31.18.
Italian Sinta Vissa raced to third place in the women’s mile and claimed a new personal best of 4:24.35, the same as OAC Oceania’s Maudie Skyring who ran to a PB of 4:33.86 and the eighth position. Cari Hughes and Fabiane Meyer were tenth and eleventh respectively.
Luke McCann was the fastest OAC athlete in the men’s 1500m A race and claimed position six with a new PB of 3:34.76. Noah Baltus was thirteenth. Therence Bizoza and Jamal Abdelmaji Eisa Mohammed were eleventh and thirteenth in the men’s B race.
