Records tumble all across the world as On athletes take to the track

New national records and personal bests were set at meets in Lyon (FRA), Lievin (FRA), Adelaide (AUS), and at the Millrose Games in New York (USA).

Zurich, Switzerland, February 12, 2024 - On athletes showcased excellence on tracks around the globe, shattering records and setting new standards at prestigious athletic meets in Lyon, Lievin, Adelaide, and the iconic Millrose Games in New York.

In Lyon, Sarah Madeleine stormed to a new meet record on the 3000m in 8:53.51. This exceptional performance not only marked a personal best for the 25-year-old athlete but also secured her the sixth-best time ever recorded by a Frenchwoman.

New OAC Europe athlete Mohamed Attaoui continued to impress with a hard-fought second place in the 800m finals and a new personal best of 1:45.49. Fellow On athlete Corentin Le Clezio also showcased his prowess by clocking a new personal record of 1:47.48, finishing fifth.

The record-breaking streak continued at the World Indoor Tour in Lievin, France, where Agathe Guillemot, a recent addition to the On team, shattered the French national indoor record over 1500m with an impressive time of 4:04.64

In Oceania, the 2024 Adelaide Invitational, part of the Australian National Series was the first major outing of the summer for for the OAC Oceania team.

Jesse Hunt achieved second place and a new personal best of 3:35.70 in the men’s 1500m, while Bendere Oboya secured a parallel result in a fiercely competitive women’s 800m event. Ed Trippas emerged victorious in a tactical men’s 3000m race, crossing the finish line in 8:32.24. The women’s 1500m race was a spectacle, with Claudia Hollingsworth, Maudie Skyring, and Imogen Barrett all achieving new personal bests. Hollingsworth's time of 4:04.45 not only set a meet record but also broke Georgie Clarke's long-standing Australian U20 record after 24 years. Her time also meant a new U20 Oceania record and the qualifying standard for the Junior World Championships.

On Sunday, eleven On athletes graced the renowned NY Armory for the 116th Millrose Games, competing for the prestige of victory.

The first major race for the evening, the women’s 2-Mile had three On athletes toeing the start line: Alicia Monson, Courtney Wayment, and Alicja Konieczek. The race started off fast, and OAC’s Alicia Monson moved to pull the train after the pacesetter stepped off. However, when the bell rang, it was the 1500m specialists who kicked off for the finish to claim the podium positions. When the dust settled, Alicia Monson had a new American Record of 9:09.70, and all On athletes walked away with personal bests.

The men’s 2-mile race offered similar skills. Toted as a world record race, On entered five of its best athletes to try and take down the 8:03.40 mark: George Beamish, Morgan McDonald, Joe Klecker, Kieran Lumb, and Keita Satoh. Although the win snuck away, four athletes etched new PB's into their books while breaking three respective national records. George Beamish (NZL) finished in 8:05.73. Australian Morgan McDonald followed in 8:12.01, while Keita Sato from Japan clocked an 8:14.71.

Anticipation reached its peak before the men’s mile as rumors swirled of a world record attempt by OAC's Yared Nuguse. When the pacesetter stepped off after a hot first 800m, Nuguse was left to push on his own. With a lap to go, it was Nuguse and On teammate George Mills fighting for the win, with the US national champion ultimately surging ahead to defend his Millrose title.
