For immediate release
Director Richard Bullock depicts a heart-rendering story of displacement and determination in a full-length feature film entitled “RUN” to be released on World Refugee Day, June 20th 2020.
Iconic Kenyan runner, Tegla Loroupe, mentors aspiring athlete refugees from her training camp in Nairobi who embark on a grueling road to the Tokyo Olympic Games.
June, 09 2020 – ZURICH, Switzerland – Directed by Richard Bullock and filmed over a three-year period RUN is a story of unwavering human spirit, empowerment and fearless bravery by a group of athlete refugees who have historically only known how to run for their lives. A journey of heroism and burgeoning might on the road to the Tokyo Olympic Games by the internationally renowned Athlete Refugee Team has been captured in an emotionally-charged documentary produced by On, the Swiss sportswear company and Hungry Man Productions.
«Their race began when they were six or seven years old, with the sound of a gun, not the starter pistol», says Olivier Bernhard, co-founder of On.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed. But this does not change the fascination of the film document. On the contrary: The potent documentary follows legendary Kenyan athlete, Tegla Loroupe, as she mentors a small group of talented athlete refugees on their arduous road to the Olympics. Tegla, a long-distance world record holder born on the western border of Kenya, watched waves of refugees arriving to her country, and has made it her lifelong mission to send a refugee team to the Olympic Games.
«We are pleased their story, talent and spirit is being introduced and celebrated with our longest ever feature film, RUN. We consider this our gift to the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation and Athlete Refugee Team, paying homage to this special day», Bernhard adds.
On has had a partnership with the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation (TLPF) since 2017, where 31 refugee athletes receive housing and training.
RUN will be officially released on athleterefugeeteam.com on June 20th, World Refugee Day. On donates 15% of the turnover generated that day on on-running.com to the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation.
