Sierre-Zinal Podium Sweep Headlines a Strong Weekend for On Athletes

On Trail Runners Dominate Sierre-Zinal as Trippas Sets Australian Record and Waugh and Geens Medal at the T100 in London

Zurich, Switzerland, August 11, 2025 - A stellar weekend of racing saw On athletes secure top finishes across the globe, highlighted by a dominant performance at the Golden Trail World Series event in Switzerland. Kenyan runners Philemon Kiriago and Patrick Kipngeno led a historic 1-2-3 podium sweep for the brand at Sierre-Zinal. Meanwhile, the T100 London race saw strong silver and bronze medal performances, and a new Australian record was set in Belgium, capping off an impressive display of athletic prowess.

Podium Sweep at Sierre Zinal

The penultimate stop on the Golden Trail World Series took runners to the stunning mountains of Switzerland in the canton of Valais. Under hotter temperatures than usual, runners took on the 31km long course with 2100m of elevation. Amongst the favourites for the win were On athletes Patrick Kipngeno and Philemon Kiriago of Kenya.  At the 7.5km mark, having already climbed 1300m, Kiriago was just under two minutes behind the surprise leader Adrien Briffod. A further 20 seconds behind Kiriago was Kipngeno. By the halfway mark, Kiriago trailed the leader by just a minute, and Kipngeno had moved himself into fourth place, but this would change by the time the runners reached the highest point on the course. The two Kenyans were now running side by side, still a minute behind Brifford, but with a seven-kilometre downhill stretch now ahead, the Kenyans turned on the turbo, with Kiriago flying down the downhill and winning the race in 2:28.45, followed by Kipngeno in 2:29.08 and Run2Gether teammate in 2:29.14 for a podium sweep for On.

Katie Schide, who announced her decision to run just a few days prior to the race, was the surprise on the women’s side, claiming third place in a time of 2:58.30. At the 12km mark, Schide had made her way into the top five, running alongside Susanna Saapunki, Cristina Simon, Oria Liaci and Miao Yao. Schide’s big move came at kilometer 27, working herself back into fifth spot after having previously seen others move ahead of her. She was nearly four minutes off the lead, but made good use of her endurance, moving up two spots in the final kilometres of the race to claim the bronze medal.

Silver and Bronze at T100 London

The T100 series returned to London this weekend, with XYZ On athletes on the start line. Competing on home territory, Kate Waugh (GBR), who had won the opening T100 race of the year in Singapore, kept tabs on leaders Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) and Jess Learmonth (GBR) as they exited the water. Heading into the final transition, after an exciting bike battle, Waugh found herself 24 seconds behind leader Charles-Barclay. Fellow On athlete Julie Derron (SUI) was climbing up the spots, coming into T2 in sixth place. Locked in a three-way battle, Learmonth, Waugh and Taylor Knibb were fighting for the last two podium spots, as it became clear that Charles-Barclay would take the win on her home turf. Waugh upped the pace on the second of five laps, securing the silver medal, less than a minute behind winner Charles-Barclay. Derron managed to finish in a strong fourth position and Ashleigh Gentle found herself crossing the finish line in seventh place.

In the men’s race Jelle Geens (BEL), claimed the bronze medal behind Mika Noodt (GER) and Hayden Wild (NZL). Leaving the water just seven seconds behind the leader, Geens clocked a 1:52.15 bike split, leading him into T2 five minutes behind the leaders. With the fastest run of the day of 1:00.19, Geens managed to close the gap on all but Hayden Wilde and Mika Noodt. He’s hopes of the overall championship title are still alive, with Geens now in second place overall.

Australian Record for Ed Trippas

At the IFAM Oordegem meet in Belgium, Ed Trippas from the OAC Oceania Team set a new Australian record in the 3000m steeplechase. Running a 08:13.15, he also set a new personal record and hit an automatic qualifier for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

In the women’s 5000m race, Maudie Skyring claimed the bronze medal, running 14:51.26. In the 400m, Bendere Oboya also claimed bronze, running a season-best time of 52.03.
