The weekend roundup: Podiums for Obiri, Langridge, Blummenfelt, Findlay, Elmer, and Mills

On athletes shine at Citius Meet in Bern, the PTO US Open, and Challenge London.

Zurich, Switzerland, August 7, 2023 - On athletes were successful on the road, track, and swim, bike, and run to the podium in different locations all around the world.

Track and Road: Obiri wins, Elmer and Mills go 2-3

On athlete Hellen Obiri added the next win for her impressive list of triumphs by finishing first in the Beach to Beacon 10k road race in Portland, Maine. The Kenyan claimed the win in a time of 31:37.

OAC Europe’s Tom Elmer and George Mills proved their great shapes right before the season highlight is supposed to start in Budapest later this month. Swiss Champion Tom Elmer had a strong showing on home soil at the Citius Meeting in Bern and claimed second place in the 1500m race by setting a new personal best of 3.34:50, which also places him second on the Swiss All-Time List.

Tom ran a confident race, settling in right behind the pacemakers and his OAC Europe teammate George Mills. Mills took the initiative once the pacers dropped out and led all the way to the final stages of the race. Elmer made a gutsy move on the inside to pass his teammate on the final meters to finish second in a strong field, Mills finished third. Noah Baltus, the third OAC Europe contender, claimed rank twelve in 3:40.28.

Fellow On athletes Dominic Lobalu and Charles Grethen finished sixth and seventh, and Lobalu also set a new personal best of 3:35,48.

On the women’s side, new On addition Sarah McDonald claimed sixth place in the women’s 1000m race in her inaugural competition in On. Rachel Pellaud was eigth. Giulia Senn was fifth in the 400m race.

Triathlon: Blummenfelt and Findlay claim bronze positions at PTO US Open, Langridge with a win in London

With the PTO US Open taking place in Milwaukee, the Triathlon community came together in the US to fight for results and wins. On triathletes Kristian Blummenfeld and Paula Findlay both claimed third place in their respective race.

Blummenfelt held on to the podium, even if recurring cramping hampered him in his much-publicised fight with triathlon legend Jan Frodeno who eventually claimed the win. Paula Findlay claimed her third place in a time of 3:37:43, +4:45 behind winner Taylor Knibb.

Her teammate Fenella Langridge climbed to the very top of the podium with an inspired performance at the Challenge London event. The Brit won in a time of 4:02:11, +6:21 ahead of runner-up Magda Nieuwoudt.
