Top-Tier Performances: On Athletes Earn Podium Finishes in Series Finals across Triathlon and Trail
On athletes earned podium finishes in series finals across Triathlon and Trail to close out the season
Zurich, SWITZERLAND, Ocotber 21, 2024 - This past weekend saw several On athletes secure world series podium finishes and excellent results across triathlon, trail and road races.
Triathletes End Season on a High Note
At the WTCS Grand Final, held in Torremolinos, On athletes were on the start line looking to crown themselves as world champions. In the women’s elite field, Lisa Tertsch (GER) had a good chance of finishing on the podium. Despite the swim not going her way, she fought her way through the field and delivered the fastest running split of the day, crossing the finishing line in seventh place, resulting in a bittersweet fourth place in the world ranking.
French triathlete Pierre Le Corre also found himself on the starting line, hoping to finish the year on the world podium. Mixing in with the lead pack across the entire competition, Le Corre was in fifth position as the run entered the final lap, securing a season-end fourth place as well. British On triathlete Hugo Milner finished the race in tenth place but managed to clock the quickest run of the day in 28:47, which was 30 seconds faster than Yee, who claimed the world title. Kate Waugh (GBR) and Alberto González (ESP) also made their mark on the World Ranking, finishing 8th and 10th, respectively, in their respective races.
In the men’s U23 race, Panagiotis Bitados (GRE) delivered a brave and determined performance. Pushing the pace on the bike, he attempted to break away from the pack and secure a podium finish. His bravery paid off, as he finished in second place. In the women’s U23, Nora Gmür put on a solid performance in a highly competitive field, claiming sixth place
Julie Derron Continues her Silver Run
After a wild card entry to the T100 Las Vegas, Julie Derron secured a second-place finish behind Taylor Knibb who was unbeatable that day. Derron founder herself five minutes behind Knibb as they transitioned from the bike to the run leg. Despite posting the fastest 18km run split of the day, she couldn’t quite make up the gap and had to settle for silver.
A Trail-First for On
At the Golden Trail World Series Final, held on a 23.5KM course with 1,400M of elevation in Ascona-Locarno, Switzerland, Patrick Kipngeno (KEN) found himself fighting for the overall series title. Kipngeno would have to finish two places ahead of Morocco’s Elhousine Elazzaoui to take home the title. After reaching the peak, Elazzaoui made his mark and descended to the bottom, building a 48-second lead and ultimately securing the title. Kipngeno crossed the line in third, behind Remi Bonnet (SUI), and secured the second plane in the overall series ranking.
"It was a really tough, very fast race. I fought as hard as I could and we were neck and neck with Rémi, but he was stronger today. But I'm not disappointed because I finished 2nd in the Golden Trail Series. It's only my second year on the circuit and I really feel like I've progressed this year!"
Kipngeno’s podium finish marked the first for On in the Golden Trail World Series. Fellow On trail runner Philemon Kiriago (KEN) finished in fourth, just shy of the finals podium.
On Trail Athlete Manager David Kilgore spoke after the premier for On:
"We could not be more proud to have our first overall podium finish in the final standings by Patrick. Though Patrick came away with the top honors from our team this year it was a team effort that secured us this first medal with all of the athletes pushing one another each day in training and each day they toed the line. We are extremely proud on the path that Patrick and Philemon blazed this year in the GTWS. They made the series incredibly exciting to watch as we saw fast finishes, one of them placed on the podium in every GTWS event, and they brought a new layer of diversity to the trail."
