World Record for Yared Nuguse

Nuguse is the fastest man in the indoor mile distance, setting a new world record of 3:46.63 at the Milrose Games in New York City

ZURICH, Switzerland, February 10, 2025 - Yared Nuguse’s world record was the headline of the weekend for On Athletes as the indoor athletic season continued across the world.

Fastest in the World

3:46.63 is the new World Record in the indoor mile, set by On Athletics Club Athlete Yared Nuguse at the 2025 Milrose Game. The highly anticipated showdown between Nuguse and Olympic Champion Josh Kerr was canceled at the last minute as Kerr had scratched from the event due to illness.

Nuguse didn’t let this last-minute change get in the way of putting on a show for the world to see. Coming in with a previous PB of 3:47.38, Nuguse sat in second place until 3 laps to go when he took the lead and didn’t let it slip away until the end. Kessler was on his heels but stood no chance. Gritting his teeth in the final lap, Kessler tried to push pace Nuguse but couldn’t make it, with Nugust slipping away from his as he turned into the final straight to claim the new world record in 3:46.63.

His success at the Milrose Games marked his third title at the meet in a row, following his success in 2024 and 2023. Speaking on his race, Nuguse said:

"It feels amazing.I wanted to get to the front and grind no matter what anyone else does. I'm not afraid of the front anymore. I'm willing to go hurt by myself."

A week after breaking the German 1500m record, Robert Farken kept his foot on the gas until the last lap as he saw a podium finish slip away, crossing the finish line in 3:49.93 and eighth place.

In the 3000m at the Milrose Games, Ky Robinson rose to the occasion, claiming fourth spot in 7:30.38, setting a new PB and Australian National Record. His OAC teammate Dylan Jacobs followed him in fifth place with a new PB of 7:30.45. Fellow Australian Ollie Hoare claimed ninth place with a shiny new PB of 7:45.42.

For the female On athletes, the Milrose games also proved successful, with Sage Hurta-Klecker setting a new indoor PB for the 800m distance in 2:00.42 in fifth place. In the 3000m Josette Andrews claimed silver in a time of 8:29.77 with Tsigie Gebreselama crossing the finish line a few seconds later in fith position in a time of 8:33.13. Olivia Markezich finished in 7th in a time of 8:37.37 and Courtney Wayment rounded off the On athletes in 12th place in 8:56.57.

High School Record for Raye

Lisa Raye, who signed an NIL deal with On at the end of 2024, came away with a meet, armory, and national high school record in the 60m event. Crossing the finish line in 7.13, Raye has now also moved to second on the Trinidad and Tobago all-time indoor list. Following her race, she was asked to compete in the elite final, where she finished in eighth place in a time of 7.21.
