Switzerland’s Two Fastest Assets: Tadesse Abraham Counts on On
Running shoe brand On is Tadesse Abraham’s new partner, supporting Switzerland’s fastest marathon runner with Swiss engineering.

January 7th 2021 – ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Tadesse Abraham is the fastest marathon runner in Switzerland. He’s held the Swiss record for the “ultimate running distance” for almost four years. His international successes already include a European title and seventh place at the Olympics. From now on, Tadesse’s training sessions and competitions have extra support from running shoe technology by the Swiss running brand On.
«By athletes for athletes» isn’t just part of On’s origin story, but also a value that is put into practice. Former professional triathlete, four-time Swiss master and Ironman champion Olivier Bernhard founded the running show brand in 2010 together with two friends and has been passionate about heading product development for eleven years.
«We’re both Swiss, and we love taking on competitors at the international level», says Tadesse about this new partnership. He adds that he met co-founder Olivier in person at his very first meeting with On, and found that they had a lot in common: «He’s an athlete, I’m an athlete. We share the same passion for running and we really believe in the power that sport has for integration. It’s the perfect setting and I’m really happy to be part of the On family.»
The 38-year-old professional runner has Eritrean roots, arriving in Switzerland as a refugee before becoming a citizen in 2014. He says that sport didn’t just help him to find his footing in Switzerland, but also helped Switzerland become his second home. In the meantime, he is dedicated to working with refugees and promotes integration through sport. Once again, there are direct parallels with his new sponsor On, which has been involved in the Athlete Refugee Team as part of the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation since 2011.
Tadesse lives with his family in Geneva, but is part of the LC Uster team – not far from On’s headquarters in the west of Zurich. And he’ll no doubt be swinging by here more often in future. After all, we can expect great things from Olivier Bernhard’s development team in the Olympic year of 2021. It’s therefore the ideal time for this partnership between Switzerland’s fastest marathon runner and its fastest-growing running shoe brand.
